Housing First
Housing First: Building Homes, Rebuilding Lives.
Housing First means providing stable housing before addressing other challenges. Without a home, basic needs – like sleeping and eating – become overwhelming. Many experiencing homelessness also face disabilities or health conditions, worsened by life on the streets. Justice Housing Yakima provides homes unconditionally, because everyone deserves a place to heal.
Housing First minimizes barriers to entry and moves to address homelessness by supporting the idea that it is most efficiently ended by providing someone with access to safe, decent and affordable housing. It is a relatively simple concept. We provide people who are homeless permanent housing first, along with supportive services, instead of placing them into shelters. This means housing becomes the first step in moving out of homelessness, not the last.
